The event, organised by the British Franchise Association (bfa) ran from Tuesday 25th
– Wednesday 26th
April, with a series of events scheduled. The purpose of the event is to raise the profile of franchising in Scotland and encouraging potential franchisees to consider franchising in the north.
Our franchise recruitment manager and some of our franchisees were in attendance, with a number of workshops available to delegates. These included an introduction to franchising, financial considerations, how franchisors select their franchisees and many more, giving a thorough insight into the world of franchising.
Franchisee Brian McCauley of Bluebird Care South Lanarkshire spoke at the Approach Franchising with Confidence seminar on the Tuesday. This was part of the Franchisee View Point session, targeted at prospective franchisees. Brian shared his experiences of operating a successful franchise business in Scotland, with his talk generating positive follow up discussions. This led to our franchise recruitment manager, Carole Stubbs meeting up with some prospective franchisees following the two day event.
Over the two day event Carole attended both the bfa Scottish Franchise Forum and the Business breakfast.
The forum had over 40 delegates contributing to valuable discussions around a comprehensive agenda which included our franchise recruitment manager Carole and franchisees John and Jane Perry, of Bluebird Care Edinburgh and Bluebird Care Glasgow South. Topics ranged from the benefits and structure of franchise network councils to franchisee recruitment and monitoring franchise performance. The forum gave useful insights into how other brands recruit and support franchisees, plus Bluebird Care were able to share their expertise and many years’ experience as an established franchisor.
The business breakfast also offered inspiration thanks to the presentation given by Josh Littlejohn on his career and setting up ‘Social Bite’, a sandwich shop with a difference. Every penny of profit goes to solve social problems and our franchise recruitment manager found Josh to be a socially-focussed entrepreneur with a fascinating concept.
Commenting on the two day event our franchise recruitment manager, Carole Stubbs said:
Franchising is flourishing in Scotland and it was great to see so many brands represented in Scotland and attending the Scottish Franchise Week. It is encouraging that the franchise community are actively encouraging expansion of their networks across Scotland – a market-place offering great commercial opportunities with turnovers across the board having increased 14% this last year in the franchise sector businesses.
